Will GTA 6 Have Online Multiplayer? What Rockstar Has Actually Said

This is the most searched GTA 6 question and the one most sites answer badly, because "no announcement" makes for a short article and speculation makes for a long one. Here is the short version, properly sourced.

The confirmed part

GTA 6 launches 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as a single player game. No online mode, no co-op, no multiplayer of any kind in the box.

That is Rockstar's own position, not an inference from a trailer. Everything you buy on launch day is the story of Jason and Lucia in Leonida, played alone.

The unconfirmed part, listed honestly

Each of these gets reported as if it were settled. None of it is:

• A separate online mode after launch. Widely expected, given that GTA Online ran for over a decade and made an enormous amount of money. Never announced. No name, no date, no reveal.
• A December 2026 window. This comes from a leaker with a decent track record on other games. Rockstar has not confirmed or denied it. It is a claim, not a date.
• Progression, money or purchases carrying over from GTA Online. Nothing has been said about this by anyone at Rockstar.
• Cross-play and cross-progression. Not announced.
• Pricing or business model for any online component. Not announced.
• Roleplay tools or private server support. Not announced.

Why the launch is single player

Worth understanding rather than just accepting. GTA 6's single player is built around systems that are structurally awkward in a shared world: two protagonists you switch between, a police system where officers react only to what is actually witnessed, a Criminal Profile that tracks your behaviour across the game, and a chapter based story with decisions that alter it. GTA 5 launched with GTA Online arriving weeks later as a separate thing, and the same separation appears to be happening again, just without a date attached this time.

What this means if you play GTA Online

Nothing changes on 19 November. GTA Online keeps running, the weekly events keep rotating, and your account, businesses and money stay exactly where they are. Rockstar has announced no shutdown for current gen consoles.

What this means if you were going to buy a GTA 6 boost

We sell boosting, so we will be blunt about our own catalogue. On launch day the only GTA 6 services that can exist are story completion, specific missions, and trophies or achievements, because that is the whole game. Those are real and they start on 19 November.

Anything labelled GTA 6 money, ranks, businesses or unlocks, on our site or anywhere else, is a reservation against a mode nobody has announced. We keep those pages up so they are ready the day it exists. We are not going to tell you they ship in November, and if a shop does tell you that, ask them where the date came from.
