How to Make Money Fast in GTA Online, and What It Means for GTA 6
By Luke Setzer · Updated 9/10/2026
In GTA Online, heists pay the most per hour and Cayo Perico is still the solo standard. Passive businesses like the Nightclub, Bunker and Acid Lab earn while you play something else. GTA 6 has no online mode at launch, so none of this transfers to GTA 6 on day one.
Money is the whole GTA loop, and GTA Online has spent a decade making it slower than it needs to be. Here is what actually pays in 2026, ranked by how much of your evening it costs.
Last updated: 10 September 2026. Payouts shift with Rockstar's weekly updates, so treat the ordering as stable and the exact numbers as something to check against the current week.
1. Heists, the highest per hour
Heists remain the top earners because one run pays a large lump sum and you can repeat it.
The Cayo Perico Heist is the solo standard. You need the Kosatka submarine to unlock it, which is a serious upfront cost, and after that a solo run is a repeatable earner you can complete without a crew, without a second player flaking, and without anyone blowing the stealth approach. This is why it became the default: not because it pays the most in theory, but because it pays reliably with nobody else involved.
The Diamond Casino Heist needs an Arcade. With a competent crew it can out-earn Cayo, especially on the higher value targets. With a random crew it can also fall apart in the first ninety seconds. Approaches are Silent and Sneaky, The Big Con, and Aggressive.
The Doomsday Heist needs a Facility and runs across three acts. Long, good money, not something you fit into forty minutes.
The original apartment heists, Fleeca through Pacific Standard, are mostly nostalgia at this point. They are fine for a group learning the game and poor value for a grinder.
2. Passive businesses, money while you do something else
The point of a business is that it earns while your attention is elsewhere.
Nightclub is the best of them. Technicians accrue stock from your other properties without you running a single sourcing mission, and it does not get raided the way MC businesses do. It is the closest thing GTA Online has to genuinely idle income.
Bunker is the standard partner to it, strong output for how little you have to do beyond resupplying.
Acid Lab, unlocked through the First Dose missions, is unusually good for what it costs to get into. If you are starting from a small bankroll it is often the first thing worth owning.
MC businesses (Cocaine Lockup, Meth Lab, Counterfeit Cash, Weed Farm, Document Forgery) are worth owning mainly because they feed the Nightclub. Running them individually means sell missions and raids, which is exactly the kind of busywork you are trying to avoid.
The setup most grinders settle on is Acid Lab plus Bunker plus Nightclub, always running, with sales timed around whatever business Rockstar has doubled that week. The weekly event rotates every Thursday and it is the single biggest multiplier on everything above.
3. Contracts and missions, the filler
Auto Shop contracts, the Agency contract work from The Contract, and freemode missions all fill the gaps between heist cooldowns. Lower ceiling, lower risk, no setup required. Fine as something to do while a business restocks, not a plan on its own.
What this actually costs you
Work out the hours before you commit to a target. Put your number into our GTA money calculator and it estimates the time by method against your real playtime. People routinely set a goal, start grinding, and only discover three weeks in what they signed up for. Better to know first, and then decide.
What carries into GTA 6
The honest answer: on launch day, nothing.
GTA 6 releases 19 November 2026 as a single player game. No online mode, no co-op. Rockstar has confirmed this. There is no announced online mode, no date for one, and no statement about whether GTA Online progress, money or purchases would carry into anything. Every article telling you your Cayo bankroll will matter in GTA 6 is guessing.
What does carry over is the shape of the thing. GTA 6's single player has robberies with a real tradeoff between speed and take, store hold ups, bank heists and vehicle theft with security tiers, and money matters for story progress. If an online mode ever arrives, the categories above are the obvious template. That is reasoning, not reporting, and we will label it that way until Rockstar says otherwise.
Is it worth paying someone
If you enjoy the grind, do not buy anything. Genuinely. Cayo is repeatable, the Acid Lab is cheap to start, and a few evenings a week gets you there.
If you have done Cayo enough times to run it with the TV on and you are looking at another forty runs to afford the thing you actually want, that is the case for a GTA money boost. What matters is the method: cash earned by a real player through the same heists and sales you would run yourself is normal gameplay. Money drops and mod menus are third party software, and Rockstar wipes and bans for them. That distinction is the entire risk conversation, and any shop that blurs it is telling you something about itself.
For GTA 6 specifically: there is no online economy at launch, so there is nothing to boost yet. Our GTA 6 money page exists as a reservation for whenever Rockstar announces an online mode, not as a launch day product.

FAQ
What is the fastest way to make money in GTA Online?
Heists, run repeatedly. Cayo Perico is the standard solo earner because one player can do the whole thing. For a group, the Diamond Casino Heist can pay more.
What is the best passive income in GTA Online?
The Nightclub, because its technicians accrue stock from your other businesses without sourcing missions. Pairing it with a Bunker and an Acid Lab is the common always-on setup.
Will my GTA Online money transfer to GTA 6?
There is nothing to transfer to. GTA 6 launches as a single player game with no online mode, and Rockstar has not announced one. Any claim about progression carrying over is speculation.
Is buying GTA money safe?
It depends entirely on the method. Cash earned by a real player through heists and business sales is normal gameplay. Money drops and mod menus use third party software, and Rockstar wipes and bans accounts for it.
