MW4 DMZ Bosses: Every Lieutenant and Commander in Hajin

By Luke Setzer · Updated 10/16/2026

In short

MW4 DMZ has two boss types. Commanders roam Hajin and get marked on your Tac Map when close, and Activision has named Colossus, Deathstalker and Tank. Lieutenants are hunted on purpose with Boss Board intel bought using DMZ Cash, or found with a Lieutenant Hunt tower, and each drops a Dog Tag Case that broadcasts your position the moment you pick it up. Infinity Ward has confirmed the Lieutenants are operators from earlier Call of Duty games.

Hajin has two kinds of boss, and they work nothing alike. Commanders roam the map and you run into them whether you want to or not. Lieutenants have to be hunted on purpose, and you pay for the intel that finds them.

Commanders: the ones that find you

Commanders are always in the Exclusion Zone. You cannot buy intel on them, because you do not need to: they get marked on your Tac Map when they are close, and your Team Leader calls them out.

Activision has named three:

Commander What it is
Colossus A seven foot tall soldier in heavy armour, built for Hajin, carrying a Minigun that fires depleted uranium rounds
Deathstalker A helicopter-sized autonomous drone with two machinegun turrets, one of four drone types in Hajin
Tank A North Korean battle tank on patrol, on high alert

The first time you put a specific Commander down you get DMZ Cash. Kill one and extract, and you also keep 3D Printer Ingredients, which is the part that matters if you are building out your FOB. Activision lists further rewards for killing several of them and marks them [CLASSIFIED], so nobody outside the studio knows what those are yet.

Lieutenants: the ones you go looking for

Lieutenants are the paid hunt. Each one is a battle-hardened operative with a profile, a unique loadout and often a small group of loyal troops around them, which is what turns a hunt into a tactical problem rather than a damage race.

Infinity Ward has said the Lieutenants are operators from earlier Call of Duty games, hired by the Hundred Spirits faction, and named Roze and Bale as examples. More on what was shown: MW4 DMZ Hundred Spirits and Lieutenants.

Two ways to find one

Route Where Cost Which Lieutenant
Boss Board intel At the FOB, before you deploy DMZ Cash the specific one you pick
Lieutenant Hunt tower Out in Hajin, during the run free, you go up and use the Upload Station the closest one to you

The Boss Board unlocks after your second DMZ Order. Before you can buy intel at all, you first have to clear a set of challenges in earlier deployments. And the intel you buy is good for one deployment only, so a hunt that goes wrong costs you the cash as well as the run.

The kill is only half of it

Every Lieutenant drops a Dog Tag Case, and that is what actually progresses the Boss Board. The catch is built in: the moment you pick it up, your position is broadcast to every rival squad on the map. An immediate exfil is not advice, it is the plan.

Two more things worth knowing:

  • A Lieutenant's iconic weapon has a rare chance to drop on the kill.
  • They can also drop a key to their own locked location, which is its own reward run.
  • A Dog Tag Case counts whether you killed the Lieutenant yourself or took the case off the player who did.

The reported Lieutenant roster

Activision has not published a Lieutenant list. What is going round from DMZ dataminers is eighteen names, and two of them, Roze and Bale, are the ones Infinity Ward named itself, which is a reasonable sign the rest of the list is real:

Roze, Iskra, Yegor, Warden, Scavenger, Gorani, Azur, Bale, Chemist, Grinch, Jin-tae, Kreuger, Lerch, Mace, Doctor, Tae-hyun, Minotaur, Rodion.

Treat the sixteen unconfirmed names as exactly that until the mode is live. Anyone presenting the full list as official right now is going further than the evidence does. We update this page when the Boss Board can actually be opened.

Hunting them without the hours

DMZ Early Access starts October 20 for digital pre-orders, three days before the full launch. Lieutenant hunts are cash-gated and intel-gated, so the first week is mostly spent earning the right to hunt at all.

If you want the Dog Tag Cases without that ramp, our MW4 DMZ Lieutenant hunt has a verified pro buy the intel, take the target down and extract the case, hand-played. Because intel costs DMZ Cash, hunts often pair with an MW4 DMZ cash boost.

FAQ

Who are the bosses in MW4 DMZ?

Two types. Commanders roam Hajin and are marked on your Tac Map when close: Activision has named Colossus, a heavily armoured soldier with a Minigun, Deathstalker, a helicopter-sized drone with two turrets, and Tank, a North Korean battle tank. Lieutenants are hunted on purpose using paid Boss Board intel.

What is the difference between a Lieutenant and a Commander in DMZ?

Intel. Commanders cannot be scouted, they are always in the Exclusion Zone and get marked when they come close. Lieutenants need intel you buy with DMZ Cash at the Boss Board, or a Lieutenant Hunt tower out in Hajin, and that intel only lasts one deployment.

What do you get for killing a DMZ Lieutenant?

A DMZ Cash bonus, a rare chance at the Lieutenant’s iconic weapon, sometimes a key to their own locked location, and always a Dog Tag Case. The case is what progresses the Boss Board, and you have to extract with it.

Why does picking up a Dog Tag Case broadcast your position?

It is how the mode balances the reward. The moment you take a Lieutenant’s Dog Tag Case, every rival squad on the map sees where you are, so the exfil is the dangerous part rather than the kill. A case also counts if you take it off the player who did the work.

How many Lieutenants are there in MW4 DMZ?

Activision has not published a list. Eighteen names are going round from dataminers, and two of them, Roze and Bale, were named by Infinity Ward itself, so the list looks credible without being confirmed.

When can I start hunting DMZ bosses?

DMZ Early Access starts on October 20, 2026 for digital pre-orders, three days before the full launch on October 23. The Boss Board itself unlocks after your second DMZ Order, and buying Lieutenant intel needs a set of challenges cleared first.
