MW4 Gilded Ruin and Serialized Camo: The 5,000 Skulls Challenge

The Gilded Ruin Universal Weapon Camo unlocks at a 5,000 Skull Score from eliminations in Black Ops 7 Multiplayer, Zombies, Endgame or Warzone, and it then goes on any Modern Warfare 4 weapon. There is one Skull Score track, so you can swap modes and keep your total. Warzone pays 30 Skulls per elimination, Multiplayer 10, Endgame 5 and Zombies 1, so Warzone needs roughly 167 eliminations against 5,000 in Zombies. The pack is tied to a digital pre-purchase of MW4, and the quickest check is your Gunsmith: if Moonlit Pearl is in your camo list, your Skull Score counts. The serialized version with an engraved number went to the first 100,000 finishers, and there is no public counter.
Modern Warfare 4 is out, and every mastery camo in it starts at zero today. Gilded Ruin does not. It is earned in Black Ops 7 and Warzone, it goes on any MW4 weapon, and Activision has published no end date for the challenge.
There is also a version of it that only 100,000 players will ever own.
What Gilded Ruin is
A Universal Weapon Camo, so it goes on any weapon instead of being tied to one gun. You earn it by reaching a 5,000 Skull Score from eliminations in Black Ops 7 Multiplayer, Zombies, Endgame or Warzone. The challenge opened on July 23 at 12 PM PT with Black Ops 7 Season 05.
The detail most guides leave out: there is one Skull Score track, not four. Activision's own wording is that you can swap between modes during the challenge and keep your current Skull Score. So farm Warzone when your squad is on, drop into Multiplayer when it is not, and the total keeps counting.
The Serialized Gilded Ruin is the same camo with a number between 1 and 100,000 engraved on it, for the first 100,000 players to finish. Those players get the plain version too, and once the numbers are gone, finishing still unlocks the standard Gilded Ruin.
The condition nobody puts in the headline
The Gilded Pearl Camo Pack is tied to a digital pre-purchase of Modern Warfare 4, Standard or Vault Edition. No pack means no challenge track and no camo, however many Skulls you collect.
Activision's own note on timing was that you could pre-purchase after July 23, but your chances at the serialized version were "greatly diminished, due to the time-sensitive nature of the Challenge". What Activision has not published is whether a copy bought now, after launch, still grants the pack. Nobody outside the studio knows, so do not buy the game for this camo alone.
There is a two-second way to check your own account. Open your Gunsmith camo list and look for Moonlit Pearl. It unlocks instantly with the pack and needs no challenge at all. If Moonlit Pearl is there, your pack applied and your Skull Score counts. If it is not there, nothing you farm turns into Gilded Ruin.

Those rates are Activision's, from the official announcement. The right-hand column is just the division, and it makes the decision for you.
The fastest route
Warzone, by a distance. At 30 Skulls per elimination it is three times Multiplayer and thirty times Zombies. At six or seven eliminations a match that is roughly 25 matches.
If Warzone is not your mode, Multiplayer at 10 per elimination is the sensible fallback: shorter matches, more eliminations per hour, and the gap closes a little because you are not waiting out a lobby or dying early in a match.
Zombies is the trap. One Skull per elimination sounds survivable until you do the arithmetic: 5,000 eliminations for one camo. Rounds get there eventually, but it is the slowest path on the board by a wide margin.
Is there a deadline?
Not one that Activision has published. The serialized cap is a race, not a clock: when the 100,000 numbers are gone they are gone, and the standard camo stays available after that. There is no public counter either, so anyone selling you a guaranteed serial number is selling something they cannot deliver. The challenge has been open since July 23.
What does have a clock is the player base. Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, so Black Ops 7 and Warzone lobbies get quieter from here, and the quieter they get, the longer 167 Warzone eliminations take.
Moonlit Pearl is not the same thing
Easy to mix up, because both came in the same pack. Moonlit Pearl unlocks instantly with the digital pre-purchase, no challenge involved, and it landed in Black Ops 7 at the start of Season 05 on July 23. Gilded Ruin is the one you have to earn. Both show up on Modern Warfare 4 weapons the moment they unlock.
Worth doing now?
