The gate: mission orders come in pages
There is a gate in front of every story mission. Mission orders come in pages, and finishing a page is what opens the next story mission. That is the part that turns into an evening of chores when two objectives refuse to tick.
The same Mission Orders do a second job: together with the Weapon Manuals you extract, progressing through them is what opens direct weapon purchases in your Gunsmith.
