GTA 6 Release Date, Platforms and Everything Rockstar Has Confirmed

By Luke Setzer · Updated 9/10/2026

In short

GTA 6 releases 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preload opens 12 November. There is no announced PC version and no announced online mode. Everything below is either confirmed by Rockstar or clearly marked as unconfirmed.

Rockstar has confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI for 19 November 2026. This page covers what is actually official, and separates it from the rumours that get repeated as fact everywhere else.

Last updated: 10 September 2026.

Release date and preload

GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026. Preloading opens 12 November, one week ahead, so the download is done before launch night.

You can watch the clock run down on our GTA 6 countdown.

Platforms

Confirmed for launch:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X and Series S

That is the full list. There is no last-gen version, and no PC version has been announced. Rockstar brought GTA 5 to PC roughly a year and a half after the console release, so plenty of people assume the same will happen here. That is a pattern from history, not a commitment from Rockstar. Until they say it, a PC date is a rumour. More on that in our GTA 6 PC release guide.

Download size and storage

Rockstar has not published a final install size. Anyone quoting you an exact number in gigabytes is guessing. What is worth doing regardless:

  • Clear real space on the console rather than the bare minimum. Day one patches land on top of the base install.
  • Update your system software before the 12th so preload does not stall behind a firmware update.
  • Have your Rockstar account linked and the login working. Sorting that at 11pm on launch night is a bad time to discover the password is wrong.

What the game actually is

GTA 6 is a single player game with two playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia. You switch between them through most of the story, and their relationship can go romantic or stay platonic depending on how you play it.

The setting is the state of Leonida, with Vice City at its centre. Previews put the map at roughly double GTA 5's, with Vice City itself around twice the size of Los Santos. Those are estimates from people who watched the Extended Look, not measurements from Rockstar.

The story is chapter based, closer in shape to Red Dead Redemption 2 than to GTA 5. Preview coverage put a full playthrough somewhere near 80 hours, again an estimate rather than an official figure.

For the full breakdown of what was shown, see everything in the GTA 6 Extended Look.

Online: the honest answer

GTA 6 ships as a single player game. No online, no co-op, no multiplayer on 19 November. Rockstar has confirmed this.

A separate online mode after launch is widely expected. It has not been announced. There is no name, no date, no price, and no feature list. Everything you have read about a December window, progression carrying over from GTA Online, or cross-play is speculation, including the parts stated confidently. We cover what is known and what is not in will GTA 6 have online multiplayer.

Launch day checklist

  1. Free up storage now, not on the 12th.
  2. Update console system software.
  3. Confirm your Rockstar account login works.
  4. Preload on 12 November.
  5. Decide whether you are going in blind or reading everything. Both are valid, but pick before the spoilers start.

Where we come in

We are a boosting shop, so here is the straight version. At launch there is a single player game, which means the only things worth paying anyone for are story progress, missions you are stuck on, and trophies or achievements. That is what our GTA 6 services cover from day one.

Anything advertised as GTA 6 money, ranks or online unlocks, from us or anyone else, is a pre-order against a mode Rockstar has not announced yet. We list those so they are ready when the mode exists, and we would rather tell you that plainly than pretend there is a launch day online economy waiting for you.

Still unknown

Online mode and its timing. PC version and its timing. Final install size. Full map boundaries. Post launch content plans. We update this page as Rockstar confirms things, and we do not fill the gaps with guesses in the meantime.
