MW4 Carry Forward: What Transfers from BO7 and What Does Not

By Luke Setzer · Updated 10/4/2026

In short

Nothing from Black Ops 7 carries into Modern Warfare 4 itself except unspent 2XP tokens and pre-order rewards: weapons, levels, camos, blueprints and Operators all stay behind. MW4 Warzone is different, keeping Operators, Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints from MW2, MW3, BO6 and BO7, plus every legacy weapon through a Legacy tab. Activision published a correction confirming legacy weapon camos are not included, and Gunsmith does not work on legacy weapons, which instead get a five-attachment version from the Armory.

Two different questions get mixed up constantly here, and the answers are nearly opposites:

  • What carries into Modern Warfare 4 itself? Almost nothing.
  • What carries into MW4's Warzone? A lot, with one painful exception.

Into Modern Warfare 4: start from scratch

Your weapons and their levels, your unlocked camos, your blueprints and your Operators from Black Ops 7 do not come with you into Modern Warfare 4. It is a new game with its own progression, its own weapon list and its own mastery camos.

What does come across:

  • Unspent 2XP tokens. Double XP, Double Weapon XP and Double Battle Pass XP, on the same Activision account. Worth more in MW4 than they were in BO7, because tokens now only burn during a match: MW4 double XP tokens.
  • Pre-order rewards. The Hunter Killer Operator Pack and the Gilded Pearl Camo Pack unlock in MW4 at launch for digital pre-orders.

Into MW4's Warzone: most of your collection

Warzone works differently, because it is the shared space that spans titles. From Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4:

  • Operators, Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 stay available.
  • Every weapon from MW2 through BO7 stays usable through a Legacy tab in the Loadout menu.

The exception that upset everyone: legacy camos

Activision's first version of the announcement said weapon camos from legacy titles would be available in Warzone. They then published a correction on the same page:

Weapon Camos from legacy titles will be available in Call of Duty: Warzone. This is incorrect. Operators, Operator Skins, and Weapon Blueprints will be available from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7.

So the camo you ground out in Black Ops 7 is not something you will be showing off on a legacy weapon in MW4's Warzone. That is worth knowing before you spend the last weeks of BO7 chasing one.

Gunsmith is off for legacy weapons in Warzone

The second restriction people miss: Gunsmith and your old custom loadouts do not work on legacy weapons or legacy blueprints. You cannot rebuild an MW3 rifle the way you had it.

Instead, each legacy base weapon gets a five-attachment version, unlockable through the Armory, and each legacy blueprint keeps the attachment setup it already shipped with. Activision's stated goal is a weapon meta rooted in Modern Warfare 4 while keeping the nostalgic picks available, with Raven balancing weapons every two weeks.

The Operator Skin toggle

Also arriving with Season 1, and Warzone only: a filter that replaces other players' Operators from older titles with Modern Warfare 4 Operators in your game only.

  • With it on, you see MW4 Operators in place of anything from an older title, for enemies, party members and squadmates, in the lobby and in matches.
  • Your own Operator never changes, even if it is from an older game.
  • It affects nobody else's view, and it is off by default.

What this means if you are grinding right now

  • Finishing a BO7 camo for use in MW4 Warzone is not a plan. The camo stays in BO7.
  • Blueprints are the exception worth owning, because a legacy blueprint arrives with its attachments intact while a legacy base weapon is capped at five.
  • Weapon levels do not transfer, so the MW4 grind starts at zero for everyone. That is the one week of the year where weapon leveling saves the most time, because nobody has a head start.

What is confirmed about MW4's own progression, including the prestige side, is in MW4 weapon prestige explained.

FAQ

Does Black Ops 7 progress carry over to MW4?

No. Weapons, weapon levels, camos, blueprints and Operators do not transfer into Modern Warfare 4. Unspent 2XP tokens do, on the same Activision account, and pre-order rewards unlock at launch.

Do my camos carry over to MW4 Warzone?

No. Activision published a correction confirming that weapon camos from legacy titles are not available in MW4 Warzone. Operators, Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints do carry forward from MW2, MW3, BO6 and BO7.

Can I still use my old weapons in MW4 Warzone?

Yes, through a Legacy tab in the Loadout menu, for every weapon from Modern Warfare II through Black Ops 7. Gunsmith does not work on them: each legacy base weapon gets a five-attachment version from the Armory, and blueprints keep their existing setup.

What is the Operator Skin toggle in Warzone?

A Season 1 filter that shows Modern Warfare 4 Operators in place of Operators from older titles, in your game only. Your own Operator is unaffected, other players are unaffected, and it is off by default.

Do 2XP tokens carry over to MW4?

Yes. Double XP, Double Weapon XP and Double Battle Pass XP tokens transfer on the same Activision account, and in MW4 they only count down during matches.
