MW4 PC Trailer Breakdown: Shipment Returns, Collateral Mode and No More Restarts
By Luke Setzer · Updated 9/29/2026
On September 29, 2026 Call of Duty released the Modern Warfare 4 PC trailer and a tech breakdown on the official blog, and confirmed in a separate post that Shipment returns in MW4. The headline changes: updates no longer force a restart at boot, a new Search and Destroy style mode called Collateral is in the game, weapon bloom is gone in favour of bullets following the barrel, and ray tracing runs in Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ. MW4 launches October 23, 2026, with PC preloading from October 15 and Campaign Early Access from October 16.
Call of Duty released the Modern Warfare 4 PC trailer on September 29, 2026, together with a long tech post on the official blog. On the same day, in a separate post, they confirmed the thing the replies actually cared about: Shipment is back.
Here is the whole breakdown, what is confirmed, what is still vague, and what changes for your grind at launch.
The short version
Every line jumps to the detail.
- Shipment returns: confirmed by Call of Duty, with no date and no playlist details yet.
- No restart after updates: updates stop forcing a restart when you boot the game.
- Collateral, a new mode: one life, no respawns, buy your gear with in-match cash.
- Weapon bloom is gone: bullets follow the barrel instead of landing randomly in a spread.
- What the trailer promises: Enhanced FOV, HDR10+, ultrawide, 800 plus settings, ray tracing in Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ.
- The PC specs: 115 GB on an SSD, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot required, 90 FPS targeted at Recommended.
- The dates: preload October 15, Campaign Early Access October 16, full launch October 23.
Shipment is back
The post is one line and a clip: "Shipment returns in Modern Warfare 4." That is all Call of Duty has said so far. No word yet on whether it is there on day one, which playlists carry it, or whether the layout changed.
If you have never grinded on it: Shipment is the container yard from Call of Duty 4, roughly the size of a parking lot, and it has been the fastest map in the series for weapon XP and camo challenges ever since. Spawn, shoot, die, repeat. It is also the reason launch weekend camo grinds usually collapse into one playlist.
Updates no longer need a restart
This one is small on paper and huge in practice. Per the official blog, updates no longer require a restart during game boot, so you stop losing ten minutes to a patch that lands while you are trying to play. Infinity Ward does note the exception: if an update goes live while you are actively in game, you still get a restart, and it happens between matches.
Alongside it comes Advanced Shader Delivery, the feature previously called Shader Preloading. Precompiled shaders get delivered ahead of time on supported PC platforms, which is what makes the game boot faster. Call of Duty recommends installing the Xbox PC app ahead of launch, whatever store you actually play on, because that is what delivers those shaders at install and through live updates. Menus have been streamlined too, with the stated goal of getting you into a match quicker.
Collateral, the new Search and Destroy style mode
MW4 gets a new Multiplayer mode built for the Search and Destroy crowd, called Collateral. Teams alternate between attacking and defending two bomb sites, everyone starts with a pistol, and you earn in-match cash to spend on upgrades between rounds.
What is confirmed about it:
- Respawns, Killstreaks, automatic health regeneration and custom loadouts are all disabled.
- You lose your loadout when you die, but money you earned carries between rounds.
- The buy list runs from armor and perks (Armor Vest, Battle Hardened, Lethal Reach, Fast Hands, Ghost) through equipment, pistols, standard issue weapons and a Tier 1 rack of rifles and snipers.
- There is a Team Buy option for a UAV.
Infinity Ward says more detail follows closer to launch. If you play Ranked, this is the mode to watch: it is the closest thing MW4 has shown to a competitive economy mode, and it sits next to what we know about MW4 Ranked.
Weapon bloom is gone
Buried in the tech post and easy to miss: in previous games bullets landed randomly inside an area of effect. In Modern Warfare 4 bullets are fired based on the weapon's barrel position instead, in both ADS and hipfire. A Laser attachment is called out as a way to read where your shots are going.
For anyone who has watched a perfectly centered burst miss at range, that is the single most important line in the whole post.
What the PC trailer promises
Beenox is the PC lead developer on this one, working with Infinity Ward, and the stated goal is that MW4 runs on modest hardware and scales up rather than only looking good on a 5070 Ti.
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enhanced FOV | PC only. Uses lens effects to widen the view at the edges of your monitor without changing your center FOV. |
| HDR10+ and Dolby Vision | The engine reads your screen brightness in real time and adjusts contrast instead of making you drag sliders. |
| Display support | 4K, 1440p and 1080p, standard through ultrawide. |
| Ray tracing | Runs in Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ. |
| Weapon VFX masking | Muzzle effects get masked at your point of aim, so targets stay visible. |
| Depth of Field split | Separate World and Weapon settings, so you can keep the world sharp. |
| Upscaling | NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, Intel XeSS 3 and Filmic SMAA T2X. |
| Sub-frame mouse polling | More precise aim for mouse players, plus wider input device support. |
| Benchmark tool | Runs a simulated multiplayer sequence and reports average FPS, CPU, GPU, ping and input latency, with setting suggestions per zone. |
| Settings | More than 800 options across graphics, gameplay, input, interface and more, with automatic configuration based on your hardware. |
Performance target: 90 FPS at Recommended specs, without hand tuning settings. On the anti-cheat side, RICOCHET combines server-side detection with hardware-level protections through TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, plus 2FA and email verification on the account.

Official MW4 PC system requirements
Straight from the blog post. Storage is 115 GB on an SSD at every tier, and a broadband connection plus DirectX 12 is required across the board.
| Minimum | Recommended (90 FPS, High) | Ray tracing (4K upscaled) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64 Bit | Windows 11 64 Bit | Windows 11 64 Bit |
| CPU (AMD) | Ryzen 5 1400 | Ryzen 5 3600 | Ryzen 7 3700X |
| CPU (Intel) | Core i5-6600 | Core i7-8700K | Core i7-10700K |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB | 32 GB |
| GPU (AMD) | Radeon RX 470 | Radeon RX 6600 XT | Radeon RX 9070 XT |
| GPU (NVIDIA) | GTX 970 or 1060 | RTX 3060 Ti | RTX 5070 Ti |
| GPU (Intel) | Arc A580 | Arc B580 | not listed |
| Video memory | 3 GB | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Storage | 115 GB SSD | 115 GB SSD | 115 GB SSD |
Two things that will catch people out: TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are required to play on PC, and Intel Arc cards need Resizable Bar. Recommended drivers are AMD 26.7.1, NVIDIA 616.56 and Intel 32.0.101.8974, and Call of Duty says an ASD compatible NVIDIA driver arrives on October 21, two days before launch.
Preload, Early Access and launch
- October 15, 9AM PT: PC preloading opens for digital pre-purchases.
- October 16: Campaign Early Access for anyone who pre-ordered digitally.
- October 23: full launch at midnight local time, on Xbox on PC, Battle.net and Steam.
What it means for the launch grind
Shipment coming back changes the shape of launch week. It is the map people farm weapon levels and camo challenges on, so expect that playlist to be permanently full and expect the rest of the map rotation to feel empty by comparison.
Combine it with what Infinity Ward confirmed in The Ward Room, where XP tokens now only burn during match time instead of real time, and launch week is genuinely the best window this game will have for progression. Stack your tokens, play the fast map, do not waste a token sitting in menus.
If you would rather skip the part where you grind the same map for a week, that is what we do: MW4 weapon leveling and MW4 camo unlocks, hand-played by a verified pro. If you have the time, the guides above are free and do the same job slower.
